Sudbury Women in Art

Me looking oh so proud holding my book,
turned to my section, of course. Wish my late mom
had been there to see this.
In January, 2017, I set the intention to become better known in my community. It was just something that I felt was important as an artist, to be known at home.
Not long after that, within a matter of weeks, I received an email from two women I didn't know, Johanna Westby and Chantal Abdel-Nour. I was invited to participate in a book featuring women artists from Sudbury, Ontario, my community. Can you imagine how exciting this was to me? Yes, proof the Universe had heard!
Anyway, these two amazing women had quite an undertaking and it took over a year to put this together. This past Thursday, March 8, 2018, the book launch and accompanying art show took place at Open Studio. It was a packed house and it was amazing to see people lined up in the hallway waiting to get in. They had to wait until people left so that they could come in, in order to comply with the fire codes and room capacity. Full house, I tell ya!
This book, Sudbury Women in Art, features 25 local female artists who inspire the community, so it was a really honour to be chosen to be one of the feature artists in this book. I honestly have no clue why they thought of me. I'm not being falsely modest here, but this area is so rich in amazing artists, most of them women. The book is available at Open Studio at 93 Cedar in Sudbury. The art show is still on until March 17, from Tuesdays to Saturdays between 12-3 pm. You won't be disappointed with the art!
Thank you so much Johanna and Chantal! I cannot express in words just how grateful I am for what you have done.

As you can see from this photo taken last September, I look
quite different from my current photo above. I cut the hair
off and have gone au naturel.
. . . And a little article I wrote for the book discussing overcoming
creator's block. You'll have to buy the book to read it though.
Seriously, buy the book! It's a great book!

Until next time, keep exploring, keep wondering, and never stop finding beauty in the wild places. Visit again for stories about the northern life and paintings!
